Terms of Use

2Fatool — iOS app (app.tools.2fa)

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and FBTools ("we", "us", "our") for the use of the 2Fatool iOS application ("the App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the App.

1. The App

2Fatool is a two-factor authentication code generator. It stores TOTP and HOTP secrets locally in the iOS Keychain and generates time-based or counter-based one-time passwords on your device. Account metadata may be synced to your private iCloud container if you have iCloud enabled for the App. Details on data handling are in our Privacy Policy.

2. Licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, subject to these Terms and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions (the "Standard EULA"). This licence does not permit use of the App on any device that you do not own or control, and you may not distribute or make the App available over a network where it could be used by multiple devices at the same time.

3. What you may not do

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the App, except to the extent permitted by applicable law.
  • Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works of the App.
  • Remove, alter, or obscure any proprietary notices on or in the App.
  • Use the App to violate any law or to infringe any third party's rights.
  • Use the App to generate codes for accounts you do not own or are not authorised to access.
  • Attempt to interfere with the App's security features or to extract TOTP/HOTP secrets from the Keychain.

4. Your responsibilities

The App is a security tool. You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your device secure with a passcode and/or biometric lock.
  • Keeping the recovery codes or backup secrets provided by each service when you enrol in 2FA. If you lose access to your device, we cannot recover your TOTP/HOTP secrets — they are stored only on your device (and, for metadata, in your own iCloud).
  • Keeping your Apple ID secure if you rely on iCloud sync of account metadata.
  • Correct time on your device — TOTP codes are time-based and will not be accepted by services if your device clock is wrong.

5. Price and in-app purchases

The App is currently provided free of charge. The App does not contain in-app purchases or subscriptions. If we introduce paid features in the future, the current free functionality will continue to work under these Terms and any new paid features will be subject to clearly disclosed additional terms.

6. Third-party services

  • Apple. The App is distributed through the App Store and uses Apple frameworks (Keychain, CloudKit, StoreKit, etc.). Your use of Apple services is governed by Apple's terms.
  • Google (Firebase). The App uses Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics for aggregate usage measurement and crash reporting, as described in our Privacy Policy. Use of those services is also governed by Google's terms and privacy notices.

7. Intellectual property

The App, including its code, design, name, and logo, is owned by FBTools and its licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership to you. "2Fatool" and "FBTools" are trademarks of their respective owners. Third-party service names displayed inside the App (e.g. when you label an account) are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to identify those services.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, reliability, or uninterrupted operation. We do not warrant that the App will be free of bugs, errors, or interruptions, that codes will always be accepted by the services you use, or that data loss will not occur. You use the App at your own risk.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall FBTools, its affiliates, directors, employees, or contractors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, access to accounts, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the App — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. To the extent that liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the App in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) ten US dollars.

10. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless FBTools and its affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or connected with (i) your use of the App in violation of these Terms, (ii) your violation of any law or third-party right, or (iii) any misuse of 2FA secrets stored in the App.

11. Export compliance

The App uses standard cryptography (HMAC-SHA1 / SHA-256 / SHA-512 as part of TOTP and HOTP, and the iOS Keychain). You may not use or export the App in violation of U.S. export laws and regulations or the laws of any other jurisdiction applicable to you. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist-supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

12. Apple-specific terms

The following apply when the App is obtained from the Apple App Store. They supplement the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions; where those Apple terms conflict with these Terms, the Apple terms prevail for the relevant subject matter.

  • These Terms are an agreement between you and FBTools only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its contents.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support services for the App.
  • In the event of any failure of the App to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price for the App, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App.
  • We, not Apple, are solely responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the App, including product-liability, consumer-protection, and IP-infringement claims.
  • Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary thereof.

13. Termination

These Terms remain in effect until terminated. Your rights under these Terms will terminate automatically if you fail to comply with any term. Upon termination, you must stop using the App and delete all copies from your devices. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Intellectual Property, Disclaimer, Limitation of Liability, Indemnity, and Governing Law) will survive.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Material changes will be announced on the App's App Store page. Your continued use of the App after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which FBTools is established, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country in which you are resident continue to apply. Nothing in these Terms limits any statutory rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived by contract.
